A Photographer's Eye

Welcome...

I'm glad to share these images from the Maine Coast and it's inspiring light! They're made with several types of cameras, from pinhole to digital, and a variety of photographic processes, from black/white and platinum/palladium to piezo and ink jet printing.

Many thanks,
Jim Kosinski

Jim is a photographer and photo educator with a broad spectrum of experience and a background in both art and science. He taught at The Boston Architectural College, Hartwick College, was a fellow at Tufts University, and has given workshops at schools, museums, other nonprofit learning centers & corporations. In addition to photography he is known for inventing the Merlin paintcan pinhole camera, building room sized camera obscura installations, and promoting environmental responsibility (he created a silver recovery collective and helped many organizations understand safe disposal of photochemical wastes and efficient use of water). His photos have appeared in several books/magazines/websites. They have illustrated poetry and spiritual writings in over 75 issues of Sufi magazine. He is currently working on a long term project making images on the coast of Maine near Acadia National Park and writing/illustrating a guide to kayaking & canoeing on Mt. Desert Island and the Blue Hill Peninsula.

Events:
The slide show and discussion at the library in Blue Hill, Maine (Expanding Your Vision - 90 minutes), was a success. A follow up 4-part sequence is planned.
1. The Camera. How do all these cameras work? We'll start by creating a room sized camera obscura and then learn the workings of your own cameras.
2. Approaches to Photography. This will reveal ways to think about and practice photography, including the inside scoop on several modes you can use to get the shots you need.
3. Live Photo-shoot; an on location, hands-on experience.
4. Digital Applications. You'll be surprised at how easy it can be to tune up your photos with imaging software and get them ready to share.
